Illness Bloggers Join Together to Blog for Invisible Illness Week

by Lisa Copen

Chronic illness statistics are staggering, with nearly 1 in 2 people in the USA living with a chronic condition and, according to U.S. Census Bureau, about 96% of illnesses are invisible. With hundreds of thousands of people on the Internet searching for health information and support, thousands of bloggers now post daily journals about the emotional challenges they live with while facing a daily chronic illness filled with pain.

National Invisible Chronic Illness Awareness Week, September 8-14, 2008, is inviting these blogs to have a substantial role in their awareness campaign. For example, part of their outreach includes over thirty days of guest bloggers as well as bloggers across the internet posting about invisible illness matters. For example, if you have an invisible illness-and a legal handicapped parking placard-you’ve likely faced a few stares and questions if you park in the blue spot since your invisible illness does not require the use of a wheelchair.

Eating Your Way To Normal Blood Pressure

by Donald Saunders

High blood pressure is at epidemic proportions in the US today with more than 65 million people having high blood pressure and another 45 million suffering from a condition known as pre-hypertension. A symptomless condition, high blood pressure increases your risk of heart attack and stroke and you could very easily be suffering from it without even knowing it until it is too late.

There are of course medicines on the market that can help in lowering blood pressure, but several of these have accompanying side effects and, even though some people may need to take medicine in the short term to lower their blood pressure, a better solution is to control the condition naturally if you are able to.

Help! My Allergist Says I am Allergic to Dust Mites

by Kristina Brown

Dust Mites. What are they? Are they living? How many are there in my house? What do they eat? Why are people allergic to them? There are many questions pertaining to dust mites, however very little people know anything about these creatures that exist almost everywhere. I am going to go over a few questions and answers that concern dust mites.

How Would Someone Define Dust Mites? The existence of dust mites is obvious to many, yet only a small percentage of the population know anything else about dust mites. Dust mites are animals that stem from the arachnid or spider branch and even have 8 legs like a spider. They eat, breathe, and defecate similar to any other animal. A male dust mite will live for approximately 30 days, while a female dust mite’s life span will double a male’s life span by about 60 days. Within the entirety of a female dust mite’s life span, the dust mite will create and lay approximately 100 eggs.
